A complete collection of authentic duas for marriage in Islam — for finding a spouse, for blessing a marriage, and for a righteous family. Arabic, transliteration and meaning included.
Before any practical step in the marriage process — before joining a platform, before asking around in the community, before approaching a family — the starting point is dua. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Dua is worship itself." (Abu Dawud). And the Prophet ﷺ said: "Ask Allah for everything, even the strap of your sandal. If Allah does not make it easy, it will not be easy." (Tirmidhi).
Marriage is one of the most important decisions in a person's life. It will shape your deen, your character, your children, and your destiny. This is precisely the kind of matter about which you should be turning to Allah ﷻ constantly — not just once, but throughout the entire process from the beginning to the Nikah and beyond.
Below are the most authentic and powerful duas for marriage from the Quran and Sunnah. They are not magic formulas — they are sincere petitions to the One who controls all hearts and all destinies. Make them with conviction, with consistency, and with full trust in Allah's wisdom.
Arabic: رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
Transliteration: "Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer."
Meaning: "My Lord, indeed I am in need of whatever good You would send down to me." (28:24). This was the dua of Musa alayhis salam when he arrived in Madyan, exhausted and alone, after fleeing Egypt. Shortly after making this dua, Allah arranged for him to meet the daughters of Prophet Shu'ayb, leading to his marriage. Scholars consider this one of the most powerful duas for someone seeking a spouse — it is an acknowledgement of your need and a surrender to Allah's provision.
Transliteration: "Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a'yunin waj'alna lil-muttaqina imama."
Meaning: "Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous." (25:74). This is a Quranic dua recited by the servants of the Most Merciful (Ibad al-Rahman). It asks not just for a spouse, but for a spouse who will be a source of peace and a partner in righteousness. It asks for children who will bring joy. And it asks for the ability to lead others toward good. Make this dua regularly — it covers the entire dimension of family life.
When you have identified a potential family and are considering pursuing them, make this dua before and after every interaction and before performing Istikhara:
Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا الأَمْرُ خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي وَيَسِّرْهُ لِي ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ
Transliteration: "Allahumma in kana hadhal amru khayran li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa aqibati amri faqdurhu li wa yassirhu li thumma barik li fihi."
Meaning: "O Allah, if this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the end of my affair — then decree it for me and facilitate it for me, then bless me in it." This is the core of the Istikhara dua. Use it specifically when thinking about or interacting with a specific potential family.
When a match has been agreed and the Nikah is approaching, make this dua that the Prophet ﷺ taught for blessing a marriage:
Arabic: بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ
Transliteration: "Barakallahu laka wa baraka alayka wa jama'a baynakuma fi khayr."
Meaning: "May Allah bless you, and may He send blessings upon you, and may He unite you both in goodness." (Abu Dawud). This is the dua you say to congratulate someone on their marriage. Ask others to make this dua for you and your future spouse. The dua of others for you carries great power, especially the dua of your parents.
Start with these duas. Make them consistently — not once, but daily. Make them in your Sujood (prostration), the position closest to Allah ﷻ. Make them in the last third of the night. Make them after every Fard prayer. Dua with consistent sincerity is one of the most powerful tools a Muslim has.
Then take the practical means. Join a halal matrimonial platform, tell your family and community you are looking, perform Istikhara when you have found someone. The combination of sincere dua and taking practical means — tawakkul with asbab — is the Sunnah approach to all of life's challenges.
